The Treatment of Citizens

As a change to Article 4, Section 2, detailing how states should treat the citizens of other states, I would have it be that states can discriminate against citizens of other states. For example, if a citizen of Wisconsin went to Illinois, the people of Illinois could discriminate against that person. This would be a major change, and many people wouldn't like it. Travelers and citizens who have out-of-state jobs would suffer since they have to travel to another state and could be discriminated against, and it would make it difficult to travel around in the United States. Since this would be such a drastic change, I believe that many people would protest and riot, in support of returning the constitution to its original state. This is because discrimination is illegal, and the idea of "separate but equal" has also been illegal since the civil rights movement in the 1960's. It would create an unrestful United States, and people wouldn't be happy. Because this change would say that states can discriminate against citizens of other states, I believe that many people would act the way they normally do towards others, just because this change violates many human rights. In New York, and other busy cities, people afraid to go because of this new law would impact the economy, since the tourist trade would be negatively affected. In conclusion, this change would negatively mpact the economy, and the welfare of the people, which the constitution set out to protect in the first place. Citizens would be unhappy, and likely protests and demonstrations would change back the constitution.
