National Supremacy

As a change to this Article, I would inverse the power hierarchy of the United States. So, instead of the federal government having power over the states, the states would take precedence over the federal government. This would mean that states would not have to listen to federal laws. As a result of this, different states would have completely different laws, none of them following the guidelines of federal law. Businesses that are present in multiple states would have to deal with multiple laws, each of which could have completely different meanings for their welfare. The U.S. government system would be completely overturned and Congress would be useless, since passing bills that no one will follow is a waste of time. Each state would become more individual, since each one will have its own set of laws, which may be unalike other states's laws. The United States would almost return to its state before the Constitution, when the Articles of Confederation were leading the country. This is because the United States is supposed to follow the Constitution, but with this new law in place, that would no longer be the case. Separate states wouldn't be able to unite under a strong national government, and the U.S would never be able to achieve a strong healthy economy. Foreign trade would be completely changed, because individual states can now make deals with foreign powers, but other states could undercut them. If war came to the United States because of the misstep of an individual state, the other states could let that state be overrun, since they don't have a federal obligation to protect all the states. In general, this change would cause general chaos in the U.S government, similar to the chaos in the times of the Articles of Confederation.
